There was this super awesome old-time-y Ford. I honestly have no clue what kind it was but I figured some of you guys would appreciate its awesomeness! More pictures after the jump!
I want one of those stop lights for all of my cars...

'Tis a T, of course. Late teens.

Sweet! I thought it was, but I don't know my old Fords that well.

That's fantastic. Being driven like it was meant to be.

The giveaway here is the three-pedal transmission and throttle on the column. Well, I mean, it's *a* giveaway. Non-T Fords of that age barely exist. As a note, are those reproduction carbon zinc batteries? I think they are. Nifty. I think a lot of Ts out there just have a single modern lead acid, but this guy seems to be off the deep end.

I was confused by the three pedals and column throttle... how does that even work?
And I wasn't sure if those were relays or batteries, cool to know that they are batteries. Dovetailed wooden batteries should be a thing. Why do you say he's off the deep end?

Love how he just leaves the key in it.
He knows no one within 100 miles will be able to start or drive it.

Are you sure it's not an A?

I believe one pedal is low gear, one is high, and one is reverse.

I noticed that too, I was tempted for half a second then realized I had no clue how to drive a 3 pedal transmission with throttle on the column. :(

So you just put your foot down on the one you want to do? No actual clutch or anything?

I'm dumb, they're actually coils. One/cylinder. "Trembler coils" to be precise. He's off the deep end in the sense that he's using the original style ones rather than more modern repros or a modern ignition conversion - he's being a stickler for authenticity.

I thought there was a clutch on the side or the column, but I could be wrong. Most of what I know about Model Ts are things I overheard my Grandfather and his friends say when I was little.

Quite. A fenders are much dressier, the body profile (hood etc.) is larger, the cowl is more complex, it has more modern ignition, a much fancier dash, and of course a "real" transmission.

Scroll down the page here, there's an interactive animation that explains it.

Nope, no clutch as such - not really. scroll down this page for an animation to play with.

Thanks, the more I thought about it, the more I thought I was getting the Model T stories mixed with old tractors and farm equipment stories.

Wooden ignition coils are almost more scary... I should have gone and asked around and tried to get some engine pics.

Not to mention you manually advance or retard the timing on these. Even adjust your fuel ratio.

Nope, no clutch. Just the three pedals to change gears, and the hand throttle on the steering column. Henry Ford himself hated clutch pedals and didn't learn to use a conventional transmission until fairly late in life.

Model T! Looks like a Runabout to be more precise, though don't quote me on that. Looks like a very well preserved and taken care of one at that. I want to drive one someday so bad.

I've driven one, a 20s model. Huehuehuehuehue.

What was it like?

Like driving a really tall, fast, and dangerous tractor with insane body roll. Unnerving.

Sounds like a good time.
